Zoya “Kelly”

Using the Zoya promo earlier in the year I got a few bottles of polish. I have never used any Zoya polish before and am super impressed with the quality of the product. Kelly is a beautiful deep gray cream that has blue and purple undertones, in different lighting the undertones become pretty apparent which I love in any polish, it creates a more dynamic manicure.

I really love this polish, I have recently been totally obsessed with cream polishes and this is a fabulous one! This color is a great addition to any collection and is a great alternative to a black polish.

This is an opaque polish that applies smoothly with no visible lines of application. This swatch is 2 coats of Zoya Kelly with Seche Vite as a top coat.

You can buy Zoya Kelly here. for ~$8.00 a bottle

Review: Bed Head Urban Antidotes (Recovery)

Hello gorgeous! Bed Head Urban Antidotes comes in 3 levels. #1- Re-energize #2- Recovery #3- Resurrection

I purchased #2 Recovery a few months ago and have been waiting to write a review so I could be sure the product was effective. I want to say I just L-O-V-E this product. At the time of purchase my tresses had been bleached platinum and were totally fried, stretchy and snapping. This product claims:

Urban Antidote #2: You’ve dyed, you’ve fried, so take your dull hair to the bright side! Help moisture-deprived hair to the ultimate recovery.

This really attracted me to this product as my damaged hair was a direct result of dying and frying. First of all the set smells delicious, it has a grapefruit like scent and smells very fresh. The shampoo suds up nicely and alone it moisturizes well, I do switch off shampoos between this and a clarifying shampoo by Rusk. The conditioner is super thick and moisturizing, a little bit really goes a long way. My hair feels really soft after using these two products. It didn’t repair already created damage like split ends etc. but did help stop the hay feeling that was happening. It made my hair more manageable and I felt way less embarrassed by the state of my hair.

I want to reiterate how delicious this product smells it is just DE-LIGHT-FUL.

I can’t confirm that the others live up to their claim but Recovery totally does, this is definitely for damaged hair, if you have healthy hair my guess would be that this product is just too much to use daily.

What do you think ladies? Have any of you used these products? Did you love or hate?

Check out the whole Urban Antidotes line here

Tip: If you have an oily scalp only apply the conditioner to your ends.

How to: Dress for your apple body shape

Hello gorgeous! This is the first post in the series how to dress for your body type, we have already discussed the 4 main shapes in the What’s Your Body Shape? post this provides a more detailed look at the  apple shape, which is characterized as one that is larger in the upper body than the lower body. Here are tips to help minimize problem areas and better accentuate your good points.

Challenges:

The apple shape is hard to hide due to the fact that most shirts are fit to the waist.

The “muffin top” is a great challenge for the apple shape.

Style tips for apple shaped gals:

★ Don’t wear tight tops that accentuate a bigger stomach and create the “muffin top”

★Wear empire waist shirts

★Wear long shirts that elongate the torso

★Wear wide leg or flared jeans to create a more even look between your top and lower half

★Wear a high waist skirt that will help hide your bigger mid section [the pencil skirt is totally in right now… check out the post here]

★ Wear a nude heel that elongates legs to lengthen the body

★ Wear a very supportive bra to lift your bust

★ Wear tops with a drop waist

Fab Suggestions:

For the beach:

This swimdress at JcPenney has several great features for the apple shape. The wide skirt helps the body flow and the polka dots at the bust help draw attention up. Check it out here. ~$55.

For work:

This Nine West jacket at Bon Ton is perfect for the apple shape. The belt helps create the illusion of an hour glass figure and the ruffle detail helps cover trouble areas. Check it out here. ~$99.

Going out:

This Maurices top is perfect for a night out! The rhinestone details in a triangle shape help draw attention up and the flow of this shirt helps to hide those trouble areas. The deep V is perfect for drawing attention to your bust. This shirt is long enough to cover your waist completely without looking like a dress. I also LOVE the purple color. Check it out here. ~$29.

    The Nude Shoe:

This Nine West pump is beautiful and the pointed toe helps elongate the leg. This shoe has a 2 3/4″ heel which is just right for me! These are sold at DSW for ~$59.95. Check them out here.

Stay tuned for the remainder of this series!

Review: LORAC- Front of the Line PRO- liquid eye liner

I have a seriously fab product to tell you about today. I love liquid eyeliner it creates such a pigmented and sharp line that just can’t be reached with any other type of product. I know first hand how hard it can be to apply liquid eyeliner. I have had several issues with liners including opening my eye and the liner migrating to my crease, smudging/ bleeding and the worse is just a sloppy line so it looks bad and you have to start over. I have tried so many products and received this from my sister for Christmas. I will never use another liquid liner again!

First let me tell you about Lorac:

Carol Shaw, one of Hollywood’s most sought after makeup artists, created LORAC as a way to put the glitz and glamour of red-carpet beauty into the hands of women all over the world.~from Loraccosmetics.com

So back to why we are here… talking about the best liquid liner EVER. What is so special about this liner you ask? First I want you to know that the brush is a little bit more stiff than some really flimsy brushes I have seen before so it makes application a breeze. It is perfectly shaped to allow thick or thin application and is pigmented so well it doesn’t take more than one swipe to create a perfect line. I have had no issues with the liner migrating and the brush is so perfect I have never gotten it in my eye (which seriously hurts). It’s long wearing I have fallen asleep (a boo boo I know) and it is still going strong in the AM! This eye liner has me swooning. I also love the pen design rather an the little wand most of us are use to. The pen also automatically releases the liquid so you can’t accidentally put too much on the brush while dipping. Just recap and reuse! Perfect!

Check out the website here for more fab products

Tip: Still can’t apply with a steady hand? Place elbow on a firm surface while applying the liner.

For a crisp line close your eye and pull taut with your free hand.

What’s Hot: Kathy Van Zeeland

I first saw Kathy Van Zeeland in an issue of Cosmopolitan and I became so obsessed with her style I immediately ran out to find one of these fab bags. I found mine at TJ Maxx for around $40- I’ve also found a few for lower prices at Burlington Coat Factory. These stores are wonderful but the problem is that you are stuck with what you find.

QVC has been a great option for me, it offers great prices and a wide selection. Below are a few of my favorite pieces from QVC and i’m sure if you haven’t yet you too will be captured by the Kathy Van Zeeland bug… trust me she is FABULOUS.

Forever searching for that seamless combination of fun, function, and fashion, Kathy works with exclusive non-leather materials to bring her always on-trend designs to the everyday woman. ~from kathyvanzeeland.com

The Nappa Triple Zip-top satchel with jewel accent in black floral $67- on QVC

This bag is beautiful, I love the pattern and the colors. I think it’s light and fun but can still be an everyday bag because of the black accents.

I just love the many compartments and places to organize your things. It’s great for a girl like me who ends up carrying so much around that it all gets lost in my giant bags. Plus the purple zebra inside is super cute and adds some fierce to this otherwise girlie bag.

Flats with Lace & Rhinestone Detail $59- QVC

These flats are just gorgeous. This season I have a new obsession with lace, I love the detail of this shoe. It’s cute and playful but still sleek and professional. The rhinestones and lace make this shoe totally versatile so it can be dressed up or down which is a necessity in my shoe closet. Wear them with a skirt or a pair of skinny jeans no matter the occasion these shoes will be the perfect accessory to add to your wardrobe.

They come in grey, black and blue.

Mid Heel Pumps with Knot Detail $44.32 on QVC

These gorgeous pumps are perfect for work. They are sleek but also fun with the knot detail, I also love the kitten heel, it’s less painful than a 3 inch heel but still gives you a dressy look. These shoes paired with a nice tailored dress pant could look fierce.

Video Star Belt Shopper-Denim Foil Lace $75.99 on Zappos

I was surprised by how much I love this bag. I usually go for simple black chic bags but something about this just seriously calls to me. It looks like the perfect summer bag, I love the shimmery floral accent on the purse. It’s so pretty and adds an element of girlishness.

So there you go. A few of my current faves from Kathy Van Zeeland. Do you like Glossy Gurls?

Style Tip: Properly Fitting Clothes

Some of the best advice I was ever given was on how to pair clothing so it fits well. It’s a very basic concept… if you wear something loose on top you were something tighter on the bottom. If you pair tight with tight you run the risk of featuring the always classy “muffin top”

A tight shirt with a pair of tight pants runs the risk of this look

These pants could work with a baggy top although I would say maybe one size bigger could work better. This top could work with a different pair of pants or maybe a skirt, the two paired together however create this ill fitting look and also with too much tightness runs the risk of looking “easy”. For a perfect example of this here is Kim Kardashian wearing an incredibly tight pair of pants with a looser top to show you how this can work.

Though the white top looks fairly fitted the cardigan is a little looser helping to dull down the look as well as hide any imperfections.

Wearing two loose fitting articles of clothing creates a “frumpy” or “bag lady” look. Angelina Jolie is a beautiful woman and has a nice body however this outfit does nothing to show that off or accentuate her figure. This look can make the most beautiful woman look frumpy. Had Angie paired this sweater with a tight pair of jeans she would have looked comfy but not frumpy and the skirt could totally work with a cami!

So there it is Glossy Gurls pair loose with tight for a more polished look that doesn’t have any of those nasty effects “shapless” or “muffin top”
